“DINNER WITH A DJ”
If you're looking to attend an incredible event celebrating a key figure in Atlanta's music scene, consider joining us for "Dinner With a DJ." This appreciation dinner honors the legendary career of DJ Funky, one of the four founding members of the Coalition DJs.
The event will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Sea Salt Restaurant from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M.
DJ Funky's real name is Funky Darryl James, but he is widely recognized as DJ Funky in the music industry. He has been instrumental in Atlanta’s music scene since the 1990s, solidifying his reputation as one of the South’s premier DJs.
DJ Funky began his career in 1995 when he founded the legendary "Legion of Doom DJs." His talent for creating mixtapes and spinning records quickly gained recognition throughout Atlanta’s club scene.
Over the years, DJ Funky has had the opportunity to achieve numerous accomplishments in the industry. He became a featured DJ and radio personality on Jermaine Dupri’s influential So So Def Radio, which broadcasts on CBS/V103FM. This exposure allowed DJ Funky to interview many of the music industry's top entertainers, contributing to his reputation as a leading figure in the field.
As one of the founding members of the Coalition DJs, DJ Funky has played a significant role in promoting and breaking new music, particularly in Atlanta’s adult entertainment venues. Renowned hip-hop artists such as 2Chainz, Future, and Migos have credited DJ Funky and the Coalition DJs for helping their music reach a broader audience and turning them into the chart-topping stars we know today.
In August 2013, the Wall Street Journal featured DJ Funky and the Coalition DJs in a story titled “The Rise of Atlanta’s Strip-Club DJs as Music Moguls,” highlighting their significant impact on the music industry. DJ Funky's experiences extend far beyond spinning records at well-known nightclubs like Strokers, Tease, and Club Silhouettes.
