“Kids In The Kitchen”

It's very heartbreaking to know that many children in Philadelphia lack access to fresh, healthy food. We invite you to learn about an inspiring initiative driven by the passion, dedication, and determination of the women at The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc.

We are proud to announce that the overjoyed and inspiring "Kids In The Kitchen" initiative will be reaching out across the greater Philadelphia area to teach children about healthy eating, how to prepare nutritious meals, and how to feel empowered both at home and at school. The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc.’s heartfelt initiative aims to help children throughout the region combat the struggle for access to fresh, healthy food.

In a statement from Pam Phojanakong, president of The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc., she speaks about the "Kids In The Kitchen” initiative:

“We strive to improve the health and well-being of our community through our work and to develop the capabilities of our volunteers to be impactful. Through standing initiatives like Kids in the Kitchen and our efforts with multiple organizations, our volunteer members are gaining hands-on programming experience in addressing food insecurity issues and enhancing access to fresh, healthy food for children and families today.”

The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. is participating in a yearly fall community service weekend. During this project, they will collaborate with local non-profit organizations across the Philadelphia area to create meaningful moments that empower the community.

The mission of this exciting “Kids in the Kitchen” initiative is not only to provide educational lessons but also to ensure that students enjoy their experience in the program. Starting Saturday, October 25, 2025, they will partner with the Riverbend Environmental Education Center to help plant trees.

These trees, planted by The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. in collaboration with the Riverbend Environmental Education Center, aim to protect local wildlife, mitigate climate change, and prevent runoff into the Schuylkill River, safeguarding our community’s water supply. We want to inform you that The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. will bring its “Kids in the Kitchen” program to three locations over three weeks.

We're excited to share the fun lessons students will enjoy, such as Fruity Face Pizza, Veggie Snails, Chocolatey Yogurt Dip, Strawberry Sunflower Butter, and Sheet Pan Nachos. We also want to highlight the last two event locations.

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. will partner with Mama-Tee’s at their headquarters to prepare and distribute meals within the community, placing these meals in accessible refrigerators near schools, senior centers, and other communal spots. On the same day, members will also work with Share Food Program to pack and deliver food boxes to elderly residents of Philadelphia.

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, they will visit their Ardmore headquarters to decorate placemats that will be donated to the Cathedral Kitchen, adding warmth and comfort to the dining experiences of their guests.

We are proud to highlight these efforts as part of how The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. addresses food insecurity and improves access to fresh, healthy food. To learn more, visit jlPhiladelphia.org.
